My ears heard Sammi (our yellow labrador) groaning, and I urged the car to go faster. Mom and I were worried her tail was broken. Many observations led us to this conclusion, such as her oddly bent tail. We were going to the vet to get her checked out.
When we got to the vet, we rushed inside, leash forgotten in haste. From the lobby area, the vet had us walk into an examination room, where she assesed Sammi. She explained the situation. Apparently she had 'cold water tail', a sprain of the tail if she worked too hard- in her case using her tail as a rudder in a lake. With medicine she'd be fine- we were both relieved. Sammi is now fully recovered.
